Roger Waters & Van Morrison: Comfortably Numb

During Roger Waters’ 1990 performance of “The Wall” in Berlin, he was joined by various artists, including Van Morrison. This version of the song was also used in the soundtrack of Martin Scorsese’s “The Departed.”

  1. love this song … and esp van morrison’s voice here …which adds a different character to it altogether

  2. it is just genius

  3. who else is singing on this song ?

  4. The group backing up Van Morrison here is a group called The Band. I recognize the following members Rick Danko & Levon Helm…i believe the other back-up singers are Joe Chemay, Jim Farber, Jim Haas & John Joyce from Roger Waters’ band called The Bleeding Heart Band.
This is actually my favorite version of Comfortably Numb. Most of the critics have blasted this live CD and virtually all of the guest performances on it. I , however, have a very fond place in my heart for this CD. I remember watching the pay-per- view event on the television and thoroughly remember the overall visual/vocal performances and the historical meaning behind the reasons Roger Waters put the show together. I have the CD as well as the DVD and enjoy them both. I remember seeing The Departed for the first time and immediately recognized the Van Morrison/Roger Waters version of Comfortably Numb when it appearred in the movie. I hope this answers your question
